Keep these important things in mind in your caregiving
Being an advocate isn’t easy but we’ll wrap up with some of the golden rules of being a good advocate for your loved one.
Be educated – make sure you know about your loved ones condition, their wishes as well as their legal and financial position.
Be present – attend visits and appointments with your loved one. If you can’t be there in person then ask if you can be dialed in.
Be organized – keep lots of lists. Know what medications, allergies, diagnoses your loved one has. Make sure you plan ahead for doctor’s visits or hospital stays.
Be tenacious but respectful – don’t give up until you have the answers you need to make sure your loved one is getting the best possible care.
Ask questions – never be afraid to ask questions or for clarification.
